The Children of Roatan

Fortunately, Roatan Island is blessed with natural beauty, abundant sunshine, exquisite marine life and wonderfully friendly island residents.

Unfortunately, like many Central American nations, Honduras expends very little money on education and social services.

It is the responsibility of the poor communities in Honduras to provide the services, funds and materials that are desperately required to operate schools, clinics and orphanages.

Many years ago at Coco View, Evelyn Evans began a tradition of community involvement. Her efforts and contributions have benefited many of Roatan's poorest children. Her charitable relationship with the Majken Broby Children's Home has been especially generous. Coco View Resort is happy to continue the tradition of involvement in the well-being of Roatan's children.

When Evelyn retired and returned to Florida, her good friend Lynn Fanelli adopted Evelyn's legacy of good works.

Lynn has been instrumental in harnessing the resources of the CocoNuts, the Internet, Coco View Resort employees, and residents of Roatan to help the children.

Coco View Resort's guests have been generous contributors to Roatan's local schools, health clinics and the Children's Home. Every week CCV guests carry in luggage stuffed with school supplies, books, clothing, medical supplies and toys.

Thanks to the talented efforts of many dedicated individuals, Lynn's non-profit organization, Roatan Children's Fund, has been able to help Roatan's public schools, Majken Broby Children's Home, and local health clinics.

If you are visiting Coco View and would like to make a monetary contribution, please see one of the ladies in the main office. 100% of your donation will go directly to the children's charities on Roatan.

Donations of school supplies (such as pencils, paper, dry eraser markers, books, rulers, etc.) are gladly accepted by the CCV's office staff or by the Folk Dancing Group from the French Habor public school. (The Principal is also their dance coach.)

Inexpensive school supplies can be found at Dollar Stores, Big Lots and large retail chains. Goodwill and other thrift stores are great places to find inexpensive but good infants' and children's clothing, receiving blankets, etc.... See the "Wish List" on the Children's Fund web site for more ideas! (Please give only sugar-free candy and gum. Dental health is a concern.)
