Roatan has a varied and tumultuous history
dating through colonial times. Disputes over control of
the island erupted between the Spanish and British, and
very often Pirates who took advantage of the safe harbor
around
Port
Royal.
Native Garifuna communities still exist in Punta Gorda.
Roatan is a long, narrow island, 40 miles in
length, total landmass of 49 square miles. The mountainous
backbone is surrounded by extensive coral reefs. Fishing
villages and towns dot the coastline.
CoCo View Resort is located on the protected
south shore of Roatan. Coral reefs are in more shallow water,
and experience calmer seas than the deeper and rougher north
side.
Because of its location on the windward side of the
island the resort enjoys a near constant gentle breeze from
the prevailing winds of the Caribbean.
History
Founded in 1983 by Bill and Evelyn Evans the
resort has steadily grown and improved, always refining the
diving operation to make it the ultimate in diver comfort
and enjoyment.
Over the past 24 years, CCV has continued to
develop the tradition of a laid-back comfort and excellent
diving that our guests have come to expect. Modern upgrades
to our guest amenities and diving services have made this
resort the most returned to dive resort in the world.
