Underwater Photography

CoCo View Resort is an underwater photographer’s dream. Whether you walk out in the front yard or do a boat dive, you will be assured to find fantastic photographic opportunities.

Roatan’s fringing coral reef is part of the world’s second largest and also one of the world’s most beautiful and unique – a haven for snorkelers, divers and underwater photographers of any ability. CoCo View Resort is an excellent place to perfect your photography skills. Our daily boat trips to Roatan’s best dive sites, and our unlimited shore diving give you abundant opportunities to get great pictures!

During your time in Roatan, you’ll likely have many face-to-face scuba diving encounters with weird, wonderful, and colorful creatures as you explore the island’s majestic underwater world. The underwater landscape and marine life surrounding CoCo View will always present you with interesting and beautiful subject material for your photos.

In addition to two boat dives per day, CoCo View’s Front Yard offers Roatan’s only 24/7 shore diving, just a few fin kicks from the resort. Two pristine coral walls and a 140’ wreck provide ample photographic opportunities, both day and night.

Since touching the island’s coral and other sea life is illegal, as is removing “souvenirs” from the water, CoCo View’s exceptional underwater photography services offer you a way to bring home lasting mementos of your scuba diving trip in Roatan.

Rental Equipment and Photography Lessons are available
Are you a beginning underwater photographer, or just want to try it out? CoCo View is the perfect place to do so. You can develop a great new hobby whatever your age, and share your love of the ocean with your friends and family back home.

There are many reasons that we have more return customers than any dive resort in the world, among them is the great number of dives that are possible during a stay at CoCo View. That’s why underwater photographers love CoCo View Resort! With CoCo View’s virtually unlimited access to exceptional diving—the more you dive, the more pictures you can take. See an incredible array of marine life during the daylight’s shimmering hours or capture the strange and beautiful creatures of the dark.

Don’t forget, there are rinse tanks on the dock, reserved especially for your camera equipment, as well as on the boats themselves.

Photography Pro Mickey Charteris

Mickey Charteris, renowned author, photographer and Caribbean marine life expert is our resident photography expert. His website is at www.caribbeanreefphotography.com/.

Mickey Charteris was born in Canada and grew up in South Africa. He has been diving around the world, but his real love is the coral reef surrounding the island of Roatan. Mickey has been diving for over 20 years, most of that time professionally, either as an Instructor, Divemaster or underwater videographer. His early video work was featured on The Discovery Channel and he produced a documentary on coral reef ecology, also titled Caribbean Reef Life.

One day Mickey borrowed a friend’s still camera — and he was hooked. He began shooting a “species library” of the local reef inhabitants. He jokingly vowed that when he had collected 1000 species photos, he would publish a book. In late 2011 he hit his mark, and began assembling and organizing his photos into the work that would eventually become Caribbean Reef Life. Today, the species count is just over 2000 and still growing. The book is now in its fifth printing as an expanded third edition. It is a “go-to” reference book for the Bay Islands. It is “more than just an identification book; it aims to give divers a deeper understanding of these dynamic ecosystems and how different species, including our own, contribute to the reef as a whole.”

Mickey is still seeing new things on every dive.
